Ms. Yung: Good morning Principal, teachers and fellow students. I am so delighted to have a chance today to interview two outstanding S4 students who participated in an international competition weeks ago. Hello Yannes and Jasmine! Could you tell us briefly the details of the competition you joined?
Yannes: Good morning! I am Yannes from 4A. Jasmine and I joined Hong Kong Junior Skills Competition 2022 last month. I was interested in making coffee, cocktail and mocktail so I decided to join the Restaurant Service Section. When Ms. Lo invited me to join the competition, I said ‘yes’ immediately!
Jasmin: I am Jasmine from 4A. As I am more interested in graphic design and poster design, I joined the Graphic Design Technology Section. I learnt useful fundamental skills in graphic design. For example, I have learnt how to place texts and visual elements in A4 poster by using various graphic materials including photos, icons or self-created visual elements. I think graphic design skills are more and more useful as we have to read a lot of multi-modal texts in this information age.
Ms. Yung: Great! It really is an eye-opening experience for both of you. Yannes, I know that you were even shortlisted to enter the final competition. Could you tell what you did in the competition?
Yannes: In the semi-final, I had to demonstrate restaurant service skills to serve a table of four, including setting up a table for four persons. In the final, I also had to demonstrate how to open a bottle of wine for decanting.
Ms. Yung: I think it is not easy to learn the skills that you know nothing at first. But if you have the interest in particular areas, you should try and grasp the opportunity to broaden your horizons. Thank you for sharing with us today.
