Hong Kong is an international city. We celebrate both Chinese and Western festivals.
What festivals do you enjoy most? Do you know the stories behind these festivals? Did you know why Western people celebrate Thanksgiving? Did you know who invented Christmas cards? Did you know why people wear scary masks at Halloween?
If you want to know the answers to the above questions, and many more, I’d like to recommend the book “British and American Festivities” to you. In this book, you will find the customs and stories behind many of the Western festivals. You can even find out how people in Britain and the US celebrate Chinese New Year. For those who are interested in cooking, you can find several interesting recipes inside.
This book is published by the Commercial Press, and belongs to Level 2 of the Black Cat Series. This series has different fiction and non-fiction books at different levels. Many of the older stories have been simplified, so you can enjoy classical stories in simpler English. There are also Chinese translations to some of the words and also various exercises to help you understand. There are quite a number of these books in your library. Do look out for them and enjoy them while improving your English!
